How to Identify NJAR® Members
The terms REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® are registered collective membership marks that identify real estate professionals who are members of the REALTOR® organization. Only those who have joined NAR, NJAR® and their local board/association of REALTORS® may use the term. REALTORS® may be identified by the REALTOR® "R" which may be found on members' business cards and websites.
History of NJAR®
In December 1917, a group of 54 real estate professionals met in Atlantic City and formed the Real Estate League of New Jersey. The first officers of the League were President Francis Gormley of Jersey City and Secretary Robert D. Clow Jr. of Camden.
During the League's first five years, local boards were formed as part of the organization and membership grew to 822 firms. The state legislature passed the Real Estate License Act during this time.
In 1924, the Real Estate League of New Jersey became the New Jersey Association of Real Estate Boards. The name was changed from the New Jersey Association of Real Estate Boards to New Jersey Association of REALTOR® Boards in 1969. The New Jersey Association of REALTOR® Boards became the New Jersey Association of REALTORS®
in 1974.
Today, there are 24
local boards/associations of REALTORS®
in New Jersey and approximately 53,000 members of NJAR®.
