2010 NEW JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® LEADERSHIP TEAM INSTALLED

Judy Appleby of Seaside Park to serve as President

(Atlantic City, NJ) Judy Appleby, ABR, RSPS, SRES, of Appleby Realty in Seaside Park, N.J. will be taking the lead as 2010 president of the New Jersey Association of REALTORS® (NJAR®). Appleby was installed last night, along with the other members of the 2010 leadership team, at the President's Gala held at the Triple Play REALTOR® Convention & Trade Expo.

In her role, Appleby looks forward to maintaining NJAR®'s position as "The Voice for Real Estate in New Jersey" and furthering the Association's mission to preserve homeownership and protect the private property rights of New Jersey's residents.

"As we emerge from the difficulties of the global recession, New Jersey's buying and selling public are looking for trusted advisors who will deliver expert knowledge and service to help steer them through one of the most important financial decisions of their life," said 2010 NJAR® President Judy Appleby. "I look forward to helping our members fulfill that role as well as reaching the public directly to help clear any uncertainties relating to the real estate market in our state."

Below are profiles of Appleby and NJAR®'s 2010 officers.

2010 President Judy Appleby, ABR, RSPS, SRES

A REALTOR® since 1978, Appleby is the broker/owner of Appleby Realty in Seaside Park, N.J. Throughout the years, she has served as a NJAR® director, division officer and committee chairperson. She has also served on numerous committees and is currently a trustee of the NJAR® Governmental Research Foundation. On a local level, Appleby served as president of the Ocean County Board of REALTORS® in 2003 and 2006 and was twice named REALTOR® of the Year. In 2009, in Washington, D.C., she participated in a work study group appointed by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR) regarding disaster insurance. Currently, she is a member of the NAR land use, property rights and environment committee.

In addition to her participation in the REALTOR® organization, Appleby is involved in her community. She is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity and is a member of the Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.

2010 President-Elect Allan "Dutch" Dechert, RSPS

Dechert is the broker/co-owner of Ferguson Dechert, Inc. in Avalon, N.J. Dechert has served as a NJAR® director, division officer and committee chairperson. In addition, he served as the president of the NJAR® Governmental Research Foundation in 2006 and 2007. Locally, Dechert served as president of the Cape May County Association of REALTORS®, Inc. and was selected as the local Association's REALTOR® of the Year in 1990 and again in 2001. He serves as a NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® director, a position in which he also served from 2002 to 2008, and he is a member of the NAR resort and second home real estate committee.

2010 First Vice President Gary Large, CRB, e-PRO, ABRM

Large joined the REALTOR® Association upon entering the real estate business in 1974. He currently manages the Morris County Regional Sales Center for Prudential New Jersey Properties. At the state level, he has held the post of professional conduct division officer in 2009, industry advocacy division officer in 2008 and served as chair of the legal affairs committee in 2007. He has been a trustee of the North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS® board of directors for over 10 years, serving as the Association's president in 2004. At the national level, Large is currently an NAR director and a member of the membership policy and board jurisdiction committee.

2010 Treasurer Melanie Selk, CRS, e-PRO, GRI, SRES

Selk has been practicing real estate since 1987, which is the year she joined the Association. She is currently a broker-associate at RE/MAX Estates Realty in Clark, N.J. Throughout the years, Selk has served the REALTOR® organization in many different capacities. At the state level, she held the post of professional development division officer and served as chair of the legislative committee. She was a trustee of the NJAR® Governmental Research Foundation (GRF) and assumed the role of GRF president in 2008. Locally, she was elected to serve as president of the Greater Union County Association of REALTORS® in 2001 and 2002. Selk currently serves the NAR as a director and a member of the land use, property rights and environment committee.
